Hi, I’m Wendy, wife to one, mama to three, happily homeschooling in the DMV. In reverse order: I like to blog, teach, mother my kids, love my hubby and adore my heavenly Father. I am a recovering perfectionist, humbly pursuing excellence in the daily activities of life. I like dark chocolate, banana chips, sunny days and thrift stores. I think I am well-balanced in goofiness, creativity, seriousness and fun. I love life and it’s my intent to thrive in it! If you’ve got time for more, here are 12 more things you may (or may not) want to know about me.
Why I Blog
Blogging, for me, started off in 2009 just as an archive of our homeschool activities, a way to keep a record of what we’ve been up to, an occasional hobby.

Blogging has now become my little outlet. A place where I can be creative in a whole new and exciting way. I get to think thoughtfully (yes, think thoughtfully) about what I’m writing, why I’m writing it and how it’s going to help someone else (that excites me!). I get to share stuff with you (I call them “shareables”) and get ideas from you as well. When we share stuff it helps us grow together and improve on some area of life and living…we thrive! I am passionate about anything that enriches my home life and those are the things I blog about. My blog is for any mama out there, mamas like you, who like to learn stuff and get tips on organizing, homeschooling, curriculum, faith, wholesome health and easy recipes. Occasionally, I like to share a milestone or two in our life, because “ain’t life grand?”, we should celebrate it!
I also do daily “shareables” on my Instagram and Facebook, you and I can hang out there too!
Home With My Kings
I am Home With My Kings because I literally have four Kings in my household. No joke. We have a tradition of “King” names in our family and quite honestly once we started on that trend, we couldn’t stop. We thought about giving our third son, a “non-King” name, but it just didn’t sit or sound right (plus, I like consistency), so we kept on with tradition.
Ladies (and maybe a gentleman) without further ado, meet my Kings:
My hardworking hubby Kingsley Sr. (a.k.a. King Fix-It) is a jack of all trades, master of many. He’s the brawn of the family business, I try to be the brain and we compete for the title of beauty. What do you think?…I say I’m way cuter! Lol.
Kingston (Global Thinker) is growing up right before our very eyes. He’s 8 now and loves books, Legos, adventure and computer games. He’s talkative, kind, compassionate, writes his own jokes and is concerned about the world. Learn more about him at his own blog.
Kingswell (Rocket Scientist) is a belly full of laughs. He’s always bursting through the house like a rocket at full blast. He’s perfectly theatrical and always smiling. He’s 6 and loves origami, flowers, Legos, and any food that is sweet (including fruits). He could easily hang out with Winnie the Pooh eating honey sandwiches.
Kingsworth (Lil’ Asparagus) is my shnookums!! He’s the baby (3 yrs. old) and he knows it. He’s huggable, kissable, lovable. He likes to make messes, is a puzzle maniac and his favorite food is eggs, more specifically, omelets. We just adore him.
Why We Homeschool
We homeschool because we believe God called us to it. It literally came upon my heart one day while quietly sitting at my desk (when I used to work a part-time job). At the time we (hubby and I) were thoughtfully wrestling with how our kids were going to be able to learn and live both of their heritages (Jamaican and American). The word “homeschooling” came on my heart, and it just wouldn’t leave. At the time, I didn’t know a single person that homeschooled and had no clue what it even entailed, was it even legal? That week, I went to my trusted friend, google.com, for some info and checked out this book from my local library. I devoured the entire book that very weekend and I was fascinated, excited, inspired and downright giddy! I announced to my hubby…I have the answer, we’re going to HOMESCHOOL! That was about 7 years ago and we’re still at it. (Sidenote: incidentally, we still haven’t managed to do that whole dual heritage living bit because in the midst of our plans, life happened).
Friends, I have shown you pieces of my heart and so you should understand a little bit more about the who, what, whens and whys of our story. I love being Home With My Kings and I love blogging about it. 🙂
